The 2013 Champagne Stakes is run over a distance of 1,600 metres and is open to two-year-olds only.

Run as part of Sydney Cup Day, the 2013 Champagne Stakes shares it’s day with the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Group 1 All Aged Stakes, Group 1 Sydney Cup, Group 2 Emancipation Stakes and Group 3 Frank Packer Plate.

Trainer Peter Snowden is expected to have at least one runner in the 2013 Champagne Stakes, with Champollion likely to be given a start.

Champollion won the Group 3 The Schweppervescence at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse two starts back before finishing seventh in the Group 1 Sires Produce Stakes at Royal Randwick last start.

He may now go on to have one final attempt to end the autumn on a winning note in the 2013 Champagne Stakes next weekend.

While Champollion is a likely starter, Snowden anticipates Guelph will certainly take her place in the race.

Guelph won the Group 1 Sires’ Produce Stakes last start over Golden Slipper winner Overreach and will now go on to the 2013 Champagne Stakes.

”She deserves her chance, and she is so tough she can handle it,” Snowden said.

”She’s a great eater and she doesn’t knock herself around on the training track.”
