Pierro Wins 2012 Champagne Stakes – Royal Randwick Race Results

April 28th, 2012

Pierro has taken out the triple crown by winning the Group 1 Champagne Stakes at Royal Randwick Racecourse today April 28, 2012.

The Lonhro colt now remains unbeaten across all of his six race starts and has earned more than $2.94 million in prize money.

Pierro became the first colt in 21 years to win the two-year-old triple crown by claiming victory in the Group 1 Golden Slipper, Group 1 Sires Produce Stakes and today’s 2012 Champagne Stakes.

Trainer Gai Waterhouse couldn’t contain her excitement after the race was run.

“Outstanding, absolutely outstanding,” she said of Pierro’s run.

“We’re just very privileged to see a horse as good as it.

“We’ve seen a very special horse today.

“They don’t (usually)do it the colts: win the triple crown.”

Jockey Nash Rawiller was in awe of Pierro’s latest race win in the 2012 Champagne Stakes.

“It’s just been a phenomenal ride,” Rawiller said.

“He was arrogant today.

“(He’s) just such a magnificent horse.

“He was too good.

“He’s just continued to raise the bar so to speak and it’s basically been more than my dreams could have imagined.”

Pierro has now run the last race of his two-year-old season and is expected to return to the track for the Spring Racing Carnival as a three-year-old.

He is likely to tackle races such as the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas in October this year.
