Champagne Stakes 2012 – Final Field & Barriers

April 26th, 2012

The final field and barrier draw has been released for the Group 1 Champagne Stakes, which is due to run at Royal Randwick Racecourse this Saturday April 28, 2012.

Flying Snitzel is one of the nine two-year-olds to take on the 2012 Champagne Stakes final field, which includes Pierro and Raceway.

The Snitzel filly will be taking on the 1,600 metre distance for the first time in her career and trainer Gerald Ryan is confident she will relish the step up to a mile.

“She has always given me the impression she will run out a strong 1600 metres,” Ryan said.

“It all boils down to the horse.

“Rick Hore-Lacy has got Snitza by Snitzel and he’s won two 2400 metre races.”

The trainer concedes that Flying Snitzel has a huge task ahead of her with Pierro and Raceway featuring in the $400,000 race.

“Flying Snitzel has earned a chance at the Group One but the other two will be hard to beat,” Ryan said.

“She’s fit and well and hopefully the track is not too wet for her.”

Flying Snitzel has drawn barrier one for the 2012 Champagne Stakes and will be ridden by jockey Glyn Schofield.

Pierro, who is looking to continue his unbeaten race record, has drawn barrier six for the race and will be ridden by usual jockey Nash Rawiller.

The three-year-old colt has won both the $3.5 million Golden Slipper and Group 1 Sires’ Produce Stakes this autumn and will be out to further increase his stud value in the 2012 Champagne Stakes.
