Surprising Win For the 2010 Champagne Stakes at Moonee Valley

September 27th, 2010

Fans and punters received a shock from Friday’s 2010 Champagne Stakes when unlikely winner Lone Rock beat out a field of classy three-year-old fillies to take the win. Punters who took a chance on the daughter of Fastnet Rock will be very happy indeed as the three-year-old bay filly was listed at $20 odds to win.

Jockey Glen Boss did a fantastic job in leading her from an outside barrier to the inside where she was able to move up through the field along the rails. Lone Rock was eventually able to take the lead after race favourite Solar Charged shifted on the home turn. She narrowly beat out Jesse’s Girl to take the win in the 2010 Champagne Stakes. Military Rose rounded out the top three for the Group 3 event at Moonee Valley.

With the 2010 Champagne Stakes under her belt, Lone Rock will likely now focus on the upcoming Thousand Guineas to be held at Caulfield on October 13.
