Run over 1600m, the Group 1 Champagne Stakes is open to two-year-olds and is held under set weight conditions. Worth a lucrative $400,000 the Champagne Stakes is an excellent race for the nation’s most promising youngsters to finish off their autumn campaign with.

Juveniles that contest the Champagne Stakes have often competed in the carnival’s earlier races for two-year-olds including the Group 1 ATC Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) a fortnight earlier and the prestigious $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill in early April.

The ATC Sires Produce Stakes / Champagne Stakes double is one of the most popular betting doubles of the Sydney autumn carnival and horses to win both races in the same season include Dance Hero (2004), Victory Vein (2002), Viscount (2001) and Assertive Lad (2000).
